Aerospace Medicine International Seminar

The Aerospace Medicine International Seminar marked the first event of its kind in Botswana's history, bringing together national and international stakeholders alongside global aerospace and aviation medicine experts. Critical topics of national interest impacting aviation health, aviation operations, and safety were explored, setting the stage for stronger local and global collaboration.

Seminar Highlights

• ✈️ Continued aerospace medicine awareness and elevated the recognition of Botswana's healthcare sector within the global aviation industry
• 🧠 The Human System: the Dominant Factor in Aviation Safety – explored how human factors must be addressed with the same rigor as mechanical components of the aviation system, highlighting the critical role human factors play in enhancing overall aviation safety
• 🌍 Introduced CAPSCA (Collaborative Arrangement for the Prevention and Management of Public Health Events in Civil Aviation), forming part of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) mandate regarding aviation medicine policies from a public health and safety perspective. Discussions included the rapid spread of communicable diseases through air travel and the ICAO policies that benefit member states
• 🚁 Reinforced readiness for roles involving medical evacuations (MEDEVAC), casualty evacuations (CASEVAC), and in-flight medical support
• 📜 Emphasized compliance with the Civil Aviation Act and sectoral safety standards
• 🤝 Provided a valuable platform for networking with international and regional experts
• 🌐 Encouraged meaningful collaboration between national authorities and global experts
